Albert Johnson known professionally as Prodigy was an American rapper and author best known as half of the influential duo Mobb Deep. Emerging in Queensbridge’s early 1990s scene he delivered gritty street narratives that helped shape hardcore East Coast hip hop. His solo debut H.N.I.C. hit the Billboard top 20. Throughout his career he collaborated widely and penned books while battling sickle cell anemia until his death in 2017.
